Target group
Advanced students and experienced film composers.Course Description
In this course, you’ll get the unique opportunity to learn from some of the most prominent and in-demand professionals in the film music industry and take your skills to the next level! Discover how to present yourself effectively as a film composer (pitching), handle feedback, work successfully in a team, and communicate your ideas clearly and creatively to musicians. You’ll also receive tips on organizing a recording session and networking within the film industry – and that’s just a small part of what you’ll learn and refine in this course!You’ll work in the state-of-the-art studios of the mdw, conduct a professional recording session with fantastic musicians and sound engineers, and have the chance to connect with experts from Red Bull, Netflix, and many other exciting companies!
Course structure
Arrival: July 27 / Departure: August 2
Welcome meeting & Commencement of activities: July 28Before the course begins, you’ll receive film clips and participate in a spotting session. Bring your nearly completed film score with you – it will be recorded at the end of the course! A jury of industry professionals will select the best composition, and the winner will have the chance to participate in the Red Bull Scoring Challenge 2026!

Workshops, Lectures and Coaching sessions
Alongside the master classes given by well-known, leading artistic personalities, isa also offers participants additional learning opportunities in the form of workshops, lectures, and coaching sessions.
All supplementary workshops and lectures are accessible only in combination with a master class and are included in the course fee. -
Application and Application Reuqirements
Application deadline: January 2 to March 2, 2025
Requirements:
- A high artistic level is required for participation.
- A short video or written self-presentation (upload as a video link or in written form as a PDF) must be sent to isa-music@mdw.ac.at by no later than March 2.
- Composition demo recordings with a total duration of 5 minutes (these can include short excerpts or complete works)

Fees
Application fee: € 195
Course tuition fee: € 2800Master class including practice opportunities
Participation in workshops and lectures
Free admission to all concerts of the isaFestival.The application fee must be paid online or via bank transfer no later than March 2, 2025.
The course fee must be paid by July 1, 2025, after receiving confirmation of participation.From July 1, 2025 the course fee can only be reimbursed in proven cases of force majeure (e.g. illness, accident, death in the family, etc.). In no case will the registration fee be refunded.
