Abbreviated participation is permitted only in exceptional circumstances (to be confirmed after the registration deadline). In such cases, the full fee must still be paid.


TARGET GROUP
Graduate and postgraduate students or highly advanced undergraduates with performing experience.


COURSE STRUCTURE
Lessons will be taught by one professor or by a pre-determined combination of professors.
Exception: Ensembles participating in the Master Class for Chamber Music (Strings/Piano) will generally receive lessons from all participating professors.

isa strives to fulfil requests for specific professors made in the application. Final assignments are made on the first day of the course.

Instrumentalists & Voice:
Every participant will receive at least six 45-minute lessons
Exception: Ensembles participating in the Master Class for Chamber Music (Strings/Piano) will generally receive lessons from all participating professors. Piano Duos at at least four lessons of  60-minute.

Master Class for Composers:
Every participant will receive at least five 45-minute lessons.

Master Class for Contemporary Music:
Every participant will receive at least four 45-minute lessons.

SUPPLEMENTARY OFFERINGS
In addition to the two-week master classes, participants can also take advantage of supplementary offerings including workshops, lectures, and coaching sessions.
Such offerings are accessible only in combination with a master class (duration of the registered class) and are included in the course fee.


CONCERTS
The isaFestival
  (more than 40 concerts) is the presentation platform for all participants and an opportunity to perform in public.
Top-notch (professional) artistic quality is required.
Final decisions regarding who will be invited to perform are made by isa’s artistic director.

COMPETITIONS

Instrumental courses:
At the end of the first course week, the professors will nominate the candidates who will be permitted to participate in the competitions during the second course week. It is possible to be nominated for more than one award category, but it must be with different pieces. Pieces must be prepared in full. The jury may decide which movement is to be played.

The award winners will have the opportunity to perform in the concerts that conclude their respective master classes or, alternatively, in the award winners’ concert at the ORF RadioKulturhaus in Vienna.

Decisions regarding solo performances in the orchestra concert will be made during the auditions at the beginning of the course.

Master Class for Contemporary Music, and “Just Composed!” (workshop):
The Award winners will be chosen at the final concert of isa’s composers.

The jury is free to confer or withhold awards as it sees fit. Ex-aequo and special mention awards are possible.


CERTIFICATE
At the conclusion of their master classes, active participants will receive certificates confirming their participation in isaMasterClass.

Instrumentalists:

At least two movements or pieces, one slow, one fast – thereof:
One work of Viennese Classicism (Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven) or from its historical and stylistic context.
A second one of your own free choice (Master Class for Contemporary Music: the second must be a contemporary piece or movement).

Singers:
two arias (one by Mozart and one of your own free choice)

Letter of recommendation
A letter of recommendation (written by a professor or personality who is renowned within the international music scene) confirming your artistic qualification for the master classes is required.

- lessons
- practice facilities
- participation in workshops, lectures, and competitions
- free admission to all concerts of the isaFestival

Course fee for passive auditors:

  • All courses: € 195

The course fee includes

- passive participation in lessons, workshops and lectures.
- free admission to all concerts of the isaFestival.

 

Accommodation costs have to be paid separately to the hotel.
Full board accommodation includes overnight stays and 3 meals daily.

CANCELLATION
If a participant withdraws from the course, the registration fee will not be reimbursed. If the withdrawal occurs after 15 July 2019, the course fee will be reimbursed only in proven cases of force majeure (e.g. illness, accident, death in the family, etc).

Participants whose applications are accepted will be informed as soon as possible. If an application cannot be accepted by isa (due to an insufficient artistic level, for example), all fees will be reimbursed.

All fees will be reimbursed if the management of the isaMasterClasses is forced to cancel a master class.

Optional cancellation insurance possible.

TRAVEL AND ACCOMMODATIONS

TRAVEL AND TRANSPORT
The participant must organize and pay for his/her own arrival at the respective course location.
isaMasterClass offers a shuttle service, if needed, at each course location between train station and hotel upon arrival and departure, as well as for course activities (concerts, workshops, etc.) and by appointment. Our shuttle service is reserved exclusively for participants staying at the official isa accommodations.

ACCOMMODATIONS
Accommodations are normally booked by isa. Accommodation costs have to be paid to the hotel directly at the day of arrival.
Please inform isa’s management if you intend to make your own accommodation arrangements.

Each participant will receive instruction from all professors present at the course.
Lessons per day:
1h Speech and dialogue training
1h Repertoire
3h Dramatic interpretation
1h Choreography

REPERTOIRE
Operetta in German language, preferably Franz von Suppé and Jacques Offenbach

CONCERTS
All participants will get the chance to perform in a concert on the last day of the master class.
Selected participants will be hired for a prodution of the Seefestpiele Mörbisch in 2020.

In order to finalise your application, the application fee of EUR 150.- has to be transferred to our bank account until 15 May 2019 at the latest!

From 15 June 2019, the course fee can only be reimbursed in proven cases of force majeure (e.g. illness, accident, death in the family, etc.). In no case will the registration fee be refunded!

It is possible to purchase cancellation insurance. Insurance takes effect only after payment has been received! Should a claim be made, all fees paid will be reimbursed with no requirement to prove one’s reason for cancellation.
Cost: 5% of the (registration and course) fees actually paid to isa.

TRAVEL & ACCOMMODATIONS
Participants are responsible for making and paying for their own travel arrangements.
One-time shuttle bus from the train station Eisenstadt (exlusivly for the train leaving at 15:15 Hauptbahnhof Vienna - Arrival at 16:26 in Eisenstadt).

Generally, accommodations are arranged by isa. If you make your own accommodation arrangements, please indicate when registering.
ATTENTION: Accommodation costs must not be transferred to the isa bank account, but paid/tranferred to the hotel!

 


GENERAL REMARKS

SEVERANCE CLAUSE
Should individual items of these general conditions be or become invalid, the validity of the other items of these general conditions shall not be affected. The invalid item will be replaced by a substitute provision that comes as close as possible to the intended item.

 

LIABILITY
Participation in the Summer Academy occurs at the participant’s own risk. Participants are responsible for any damage that they may cause. The Summer Academy assumes no liability for compensation of damages, insofar as these are not due to intent or gross negligence, in particular if a master class or a course has to be cancelled.
 
SPECIAL CONDITIONS FOR UNDERAGE PARTICIPANTS
The parent or legal guardian who concludes the contract for participation in the isaMasterClass on behalf of the underage participant declares his or her agreement with the fact that the University for Music and Performing Arts Vienna will not assume any responsibility for supervising underage participants.
Every registration of an underage participant requires a signed declaration by the parent or legal guardian to this effect.
The parent or legal guardian shall be held liable for any damage caused by the underage participant.
The parent or legal guardian shall furthermore indemnify and hold harmless the mdw with regard to any and all claims to compensation for damages raised by the underage participant.
 
APPLICABLE LAWS AND PLACE OF JURISDICTION
It is agreed that Austrian law shall apply for all conflicts resulting from or related to this business relationship, under exclusion of norms of international private law and of the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods.
The place of jurisdiction for all conflicts resulting from or related to the business relationship shall be Vienna, Austria.

DECLARATION
I agree to the General Conditions.

I acknowledge that photographs, video and audio recordings at isaMasterClass, as well as radio and television broadcasts of this material, are planned, and for all these I grant my consent.

The mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (isaMasterClass) reserves all rights thereto, including to any photos and to both recording and playback in audio and video media.
Possible claims by third parties will not be acknowledged.
