isa is the International Summer Academy of the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. Each year, more than 300 participants from 40 different nations receive training geared to highly advanced and talented musicians at master classes taught by high-calibre instructors. And the isaFestival presents the highlights from 14 days of intensive artistic work in more than 40 concerts!
MASTER CLASSES – COURSE STRUCTURE
Lessons are taught by a pre-determined combination of professors.
Chamber Music (String Instruments, Piano): Ensembles generally receive lessons from all chamber music instructors present at the course.
WORKSHOPS, LECTURES, AND COACHING SESSIONS
In addition to the two-week master classes with leading artistic personalities, participants can also take advantage of the unique platform of training and experimentation provided by isa’s supplementary offerings.
The isaFestival is the presentation platform for all isa participants and an opportunity to perform in public.
The participants will have the opportunity to win awards for an outstanding interpretation of a work. These competitions (course-specific and overall) will take place as part of the concerts and auditions during the second week.
Highly advanced undergraduates with performing experience.
A prerequisite for participation at isa is a highly advanced technical and artistic level, to be certified by:
1. Two demo recordings (audio or video)
At least two movements or pieces, one slow, one fast – thereof:
One work of Viennese Classicism (Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven) or its historical and stylistic context
A second one of your own free choice.
Composers: three compositions (recordings and scores)
Voice: Two arias, one by Mozart and a second one of your own free choice.
2. Letter of recommendation
A letter of recommendation witten by a renowned professor or personality within the international music scene that acknowledges your artistic qualification for the master classes is required.

Application for a partial scholarship (€ 500 max.) is possible as part of the online registration procedure.
In addition to meeting the registration requirements, students seeking a scholarship must also include an additional letter of recommendation (regarding the scholarship) written by a renowned professor and/or internationally established musician that confirms the applicants’ artistic quality and economic situation.
